Care Tips
Light:
Place in bright, indirect sunlight or partial sun. Some direct morning sun intensifies its dark color.
Watering:
Use the soak-and-dry method — water thoroughly then allow the soil to dry completely before next watering.
Soil:
Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix to prevent root rot.
Fertilizer:
Feed with a diluted succulent fertilizer monthly during the growing season (spring and summer).
Temperature:
Prefers warm conditions; protect from frost and prolonged cold.
Key Features
Appearance:
Dark purple to near-black rosette leaves that create a dramatic focal point.
Size:
Compact, perfect for small spaces and mixed succulent bowls.
Maintenance:
Low-maintenance and suitable for beginners when basic care is followed.
Placement Suggestions
Indoors:
A sunny windowsill or tabletop with good air circulation.
Outdoors:
A sheltered balcony or patio that receives morning sun; protect from heavy rain.
Styling:
Looks great in succulent arrangements, terrariums (open-top), and as a gift plant.
Common Diseases and Precautions
Overwatering:
The most common issue — keep the soil dry between waterings to avoid root rot.
Pests:
Check for mealybugs and aphids; treat early with gentle insecticidal soap or remove by hand.
Transit care:
If leaves fall during transit, allow the plant to recover in bright, indirect light; avoid watering until the soil is confirmed dry.
Common Questions & Answers
Q: Why are my Black Prince leaves turning green?
A: Insufficient light is usually the cause. Move the plant to a brighter spot or provide supplemental grow lighting.
Q: Can it grow indoors?
A: Yes — it will do well indoors if given bright light (a south- or west-facing window) or artificial grow light.
Q: Is this plant pet safe?
A: Echeveria species are generally non-toxic to pets, but it’s best to keep plants out of reach to avoid nibbling and damage.
